Amazon tablet Fire hd8
Great Budget Tablet for Everyday Use — Especially for Amazon UsersI've been using the Fire HD 8 (2022) for a few weeks now, and for the price, it's a solid little tablet that gets the job done.Pros:Affordable & Durable: For under $100 (and often on sale), it's hard to beat. The build feels sturdy, yet it's light and easy to carry around.Battery Life: Easily lasts 12+ hours with casual use. Great for streaming or reading without constantly reaching for the charger.Amazon Integration: If you use Kindle, Prime Video, Audible, or Alexa, this tablet makes it all super convenient.Speakers: Surprisingly good stereo sound with Dolby Atmos for watching videos.Cons:Limited Apps: Since it doesn't have the Google Play Store, you're stuck with the Amazon Appstore. Some popular apps (like YouTube or Gmail) aren't natively available, although workarounds exist.Performance: It's fine for browsing, reading, or streaming, but don't expect it to handle heavy multitasking or gaming.Screen: The 8" HD screen is okay—not super sharp, but good enough for casual use.Overall, it's a great choice for kids, travel, or anyone who needs a cheap tablet for streaming, reading, or light web browsing. Just know what you're getting: it’s not a high-end tablet, but for the money, it’s a great value—especially if you're already in the Amazon ecosystem.Would definitely recommend for casual.

Great product
Why did you choose this product over others?:Purchase 2x for 8-9 year olds and they love these tablets. Easy to use and good parental control settings. This version is definitely an improvement, better overall quality and doesnt lag. Very happy with them!

Does what I need
Before I purchased this I asked the question ' does it support immersive reading' (this is where you listen to the audible version of a book and read along) No one could give me an answer either way. I hesitated for a few days but then decided to take a chance. I'm so pleased to say it does support immersive reading. Exactly what I wanted. I have a kindle oasis but this doesn't support immersive reading. Apparently none of the kindle e readers do. Most frustrating. So I'm left with the only option a fire tablet.

Good for travelling
I bought this tablet to use when travelling. I do not drive and portability is essential. It is smaller and lighter than my iPad, and of course considerably cheaper than a mini ipad. The advantages are that I can do all the essential things I want whilst away - read books on kindle and some mags, download from BBC Sounds, use the internet and access my email. The main disadvantage I have found so far is that the range of apps available is much more limited and the ones I use a lot when travelling, such as National Rail, Transport for London etc were not available and nor was my Guardian subscription. Obviously all are accessible by internet if there is a signal (airport waiting lounges!). I am not massively tech savvy and I found it very easy to get started and to navigate. I am very happy with the purchase and it will be part of my travel kit in future. The picture quality for my use is good and I connected easily to my Bluetooth headphones.

Nice tablet just won’t have YouTube kids out of the box
Bought this for my kids, it’s a fantastic little tablet, responsive and fast, sound can sound a little tinny at times, and having to sideload google play just to have YouTube kids app is a hassle that shouldn’t even be a thing why amazon blocks the kids app is a mystery but 20 minutes later not an issue

Good value, but I will miss my HDX!
I reluctantly traded in my 10 year old(!) Fire HDX to take advantage of a £50 Black Friday deal on this newest gen tablet. Apps kept failing on the HDX (of course; it was a dinosaur), but the ads had also long since disappeared :) and I was still able to use it as a Kindle, to play games, music, browse websites, watch Netflix and Freevee, AND it still held a charge well! It was time to let it go, but I will really miss it.Why? Because the screen/picture quality of the HDXs of yesteryear were totally unrivalled at that price point, and Amazon has never made a tablet of equal quality again. The inferior display of this new HD8 is therefore quite jarring, but I expect I'll get used to it.I don't currently have a screen protector on, and wonder if that would make the picture even worse, or conversely, help to avoid so much glare, which is more of a problem on this model too.Possibly related, or just as a result of advances in tech, it is thinner and lighter than the HDX, which is particularly nice if you want portability. The colour options are also attractive. The interface is fine, the settings all customisable, and the charge lasts forever. The lock screen ads aren't intrusive at all. You can disable Alexa voice commands if you wish, but it's there for those who want it.The best thing about Amazon tablets is the option to link them to your account at the point of purchase, so right out of the box, all your books and music etc are ready and waiting for you. Unfortunately I did find that my "Actually Free" apps (remember those?!) were absent and I'd have to buy them again, which was a shame, but that was to be expected I guess. The Silk browser still isn't great, and has no ad blocker to my knowledge, so it didn't take long to decide I'd have to download an APK for a better browser + ad blocker, which is very easy to do. I don't feel the need to jailbreak further like some reviews suggest, as the selection of apps available from Amazon is more than enough for me.There's an extra dim.setting for viewing in low light, and a built in blue light filter negating the need for a separate app.One final gripe, though, is that even on the very lowest volume setting, it's much louder than I'd like. I don't want to have to wear headphones or feel like I'm being blasted with noise in the middle of the night, but hey ho.In summary, this is exceptionally good value at the deal price if you already use Amazon for books, music, TV, Alexa controlled devices, and so on - otherwise you might be a little disappointed at its limitations. But for those who cannot afford or justify the obscene cost of the latest tablet from other big brands, it's a really fantastic option. I just wonder if it will last as long as the HDX...
